Buddy Holly Drummer Carl Bunch Passes

Drummer for Buddy Holly and the Crickets, Carl Bunch died at age 71 of complications from diabetes last week. Born on November 24, 1939, in Big Springs, Texas, he and his wife Dorothy had three children. Bunch had joined Buddy Holly and the Crickets at only 19 years old, and toured with them in Clear Lake, Wisconsin. He had gotten frostbite when their bus broke down in a snowstorm and said he was resting up in the hospital when his mother told him that Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. "the Big Bopper" Richardson had been killed in a plane crash. It was 1959 and the Winter Dance Party Tour had ended. He then joined the army and later on played for a time with Roy Orbison and Hank Williams Jr.
