New MP Duo CD

MP Duo's latest recording features early American percussion music from the 1930'sPearl/Adams Artists Tood Meehan and Doug Perkins (MP Duo), while actively working with composers such as David Lang, Matt McBane, Paul Lansky, and Jonathan Leshnoff to commission and add new works to the percussion repertoire, hav also recently produced a new recording of music that is largely unknown to the percussion community.  While the late 1920’s through the 1940’s are a time period in percussion literature dominated by the presence of Varese and Cage, the MP Duo’s recent disc reveals that during this time period many other composers were also writing works for chamber percussion ensembles.  Released in the winter of 2011,Restless, Endless, Tactless contains percussion ensemble works from the 1930’s by Johanna Beyer, John J. Becker, Henry Cowell, Harold Davidson, Gerald Strand, Ray Green, and Doris Humphrey.  While Relentless focuses mainly on the music of Beyer,  the breadth and depth of disc shows all of the different directions that composers took the new percussion idiom.

Released on New World Records, Relentless features the MP Duo and the Baylor University Percussion Group.  “Restless” is featured in the US Reviews section of the June 2011 BBC Music Magazie, and received excellent remarks the quality of both the performance and the recording quality.
