Metal drummer Scott Columbus died on April 4 of unknown causes. He was 54. Columbus was best known for his work with Manowar, a New York-based outfit known for its outrageous caveman costumes and histrionic posturing. Columbus played with the band between 1983—1990, during which time he recorded such albums as Kings Of Metal and Fighting The World. He returned to record the 1996 album Louder Than Hell, and remained until 2008. In recent years he has performed with former Manowar guitarist Ross the Boss.
The remaining members of Manowar released the following statement: “With great sorrow we announce the passing of our brother Scott. A rare talent, equally a rare individual, a father, friend and a brother of metal. All the great moments we spent together are burnished in our hearts and memories forever. We know he is in a good place and at peace. He will never be forgotten.”
